New CGS Chair, Board members for 2010

CGS announces that Jeffery C. Gibeling, Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of California, Davis, has become Chair of its Board of Directors. Sheila Bonde of Brown University is now Chair-elect. Elected to the CGS Board were graduate deans Robert Augustine of Eastern Illinois University, Jacqueline Huntoon of Michigan Technological University, Lisa Tedesco of Emory University, and Andrew Comrie of the University of Arizona.

Press coverage of CGS Annual Meeting

CGS’s 49th Annual Meeting was held Dec. 2-5 in San Francisco.

The Chronicle of Higher Education attended the Meeting and reported on a session on collective bargaining for postdocs and graduate assistants.

Several news outlets, including The New York Times, reported that ETS announced proposed changes to the GRE test at the Meeting.

CGS presented three awards during its 2009 Annual Meeting in San Francisco:

The 2009 Arlt Award in the Humanities, for a first book of outstanding scholarly significance, was presented to Edward Blum of San Diego State University.

International first-time graduate enrollment flat; U.S. up 6%

Fall 2009 international first-time graduate enrollment at US graduate schools remained flat, the first time since 2004 that it failed to increase, a new CGS survey has found.

In contrast, the survey results reveal that first-time domestic graduate enrollment increased 6% from 2008.
