Dear Friend of Graduate Education:
Graduate education in the United States has been an enormously successful enterprise, serving the vital scientific, cultural, and economic needs of the nation and the global community. Over the last four decades, the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) has been the national voice for the graduate dean community, as we work tirelessly on behalf of graduate education and CGS member institutions. CGS is the only organization in the United States that is dedicated solely to the advancement of graduate education and research. Our mission is to ensure the vitality of intellectual discovery and to promote an environment that cultivates rigorous scholarship. The extraordinary quality of doctoral and master's education in the United States is recognized worldwide. Our institutions have outstanding faculty and students, and our academic programs span the disciplines, from engineering and sciences to the humanities. Every day in our labs, libraries, and classrooms across the country, faculty and students are engaged in leading-edge research, creating and sharing knowledge, and teaching the next generation of scholars and teachers. Our graduate schools are epicenters of discovery, innovation, and application leading to advancements that affect every one of us. We are proud of our record and the work we do at the Council of Graduate Schools. To ensure the continued success of our mission to advance graduate education, CGS serves as a forum for idea exchange on the major issues of interest to our members. We welcome your contribution to that exchange.
